Advantages of Cocopeat
Cocopeat has been extensively tested as a growing medium for all kinds of plants. It is known to produce much healthier crops that require less watering and less frequent fertilising. The rapid re-wet ability and quick draining characteristic of cocopeat also reduces the loss of nutrients through leaching.
Additionally, the inherent qualities of cocopeat provide a natural resistance against bacterial and fungal growth. This characteristic results in a significant reduction in root diseases. In fact, several studies have indicated that it brings increased resistance to pythium and other root diseases. Part of this resistance is attributed to the naturally high lignin content in cocopeat, which also promotes the development of favourable micro-organisms around and in association with the root zone.
Cocopeat has helped farmers improve yields: optimum water/air accessibility has led to faster germination times, more seeding rotations per year, and consequently more efficient use of greenhouse equipment.
Positive impact on the environment: The use of cocopeat as an alternative growing medium or soil additive also helps to decelerate the destruction of our precious wetlands.
