In Sri Lanka, Botanicoir organised a special drawing competition called “Let’s Defeat the Corona Threat” for the children or grandchildren of Botanicoir employees, the children in the Wajira Buddhi Orphanage and the local community.
The idea of the competition was to promote and create awareness about Covid-19 safety practices in the community and give the kids an avenue to express themselves in these strange times.
The drawing competition was open for one month before the closing day of 30th June 2020.
There were four categories:
- Category A for the preschool, grades 1 and 2 children, from which 11 children entered the competition.
- Category B for grades 3, 4 and 5 children, from which 42 children entered.
- Category C for grades 6, 7, 8 and 9, from which 42 children entered.
- Category D for grades 10, 11 and advanced level, from which there were an impressive 83 drawings submitted.
All participants received a special appreciation gift and participation certificate for their efforts and the top three drawings of each category received a prize and certificate.
All the drawings were displayed at an exhibition held on the 8 September 2020, where we had invited 3 independent artists from the area to act as a judging panel.
The ideas that the kids presented were innovative, inspiring and humbling – some great little minds that we could all learn a lot from!
