Spotlight on Precision Plus Ultra

Precision Plus Ultra (PPU) coir grow bags are popular among strawberry growers as they give a controlled environment for precision growing. The homogenous distribution of different particle sizes within the grow bags means that growers will see even and fast root development, leading to healthier plants and increased crop yields. PPU grow bags are dried and compressed during production to give easy transport, storage and handling.

The consistent particle sizes give rapid hydration and a stable structure, optimising the chances for re-use while aiding easy uptake of nutrients from the feed. The washing and buffering process gives a clean product with elevated levels of calcium to aid rooting in and promote healthy root growth and high-yielding plants.

What the grower says

Kent-based soft fruit growers, B R Brooks and Son ltd, transitioned to 100% coir substrate production over the last few years and operations manager, Richard Pendry, is pleased with the product.

Richard manages 27 hectares of strawberries, the vast majority on tabletops and some bags on beds, and 24 hectares of raspberry crops under cover.

Having worked with Botanicoir in his last post at a large soft fruit farm, Richard was confident of the quality and consistency of the products. “They supply a very good bag, and the quality of the coir is always consistent.

“I visited the Botanicoir manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka a few years ago and the set-up is impressive and can say that both Kalum and Samantha Balasuriya have done a fantastic job in the way they deal with customers.”

As with many of Botanicoir’s products, PPU comes in a dehydrated block, in a polythene growbag, making it light and easy to transport. When water is added, the block expands in a matter of hours.
