Meet the Team: Abaigeal Smyth

We would like to introduce you to Abaigeal Smyth who is Botanicoir’s newest recruit and has the role of Junior Account Manager.

What is your job role at Botanicoir?

I am a Junior Account Manager for the UK market.

How long have you worked for the company?

This is my third month at Botanicoir. I worked for a number of companies before joining but I enjoyed working with ShopAppy and Holland & Barrett in particular; both businesses have a sustainability focus and that is something I really enjoy and wanted to be more involved in.

What is the best thing about your job?

Getting to know my clients and their needs has been really interesting; each grower has a unique approach, so learning how to do my job in a million different ways has been a fun challenge. It’s been great getting to know the others in the UK and the offices in Sri Lanka. Everyone is so friendly and helpful! It’s so refreshing working for a business that really cares about its employees, products and clients.

How would you describe your day-to-day work?

My typical day will focus on processing incoming orders and monitoring the progress of existing ones. That often includes contacting the clients for additional information and revisions to diagrams before approval.

I assist with some small administration jobs for now whilst I’m still new, but I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibility, as I get more competent in the role.

How do you describe your job to your friends?

I usually explain what hydroponic farming is and how coir is used as a growing medium. Then I explain we work with commercial growers across the world to offer these sustainable alternatives to soil growth; and that my job is to make sure my clients have what they need, when they need it.

What do you most look forward to contributing to the business as it grows?

I hope to help to contribute to the impressive growth in different markets that we’ve seen in the last few years. I look forward to seeing what directions Botanicoir may branch into, in the future.

What do you enjoy doing outside work?

Outside of work, I’m a fan of history and tend to spend my free time exploring the many London museums that are newly on my doorstep.

My favourite museum is probably The National Gallery in London, I could spend all day going around the paintings and reading the little pieces of information that goes with them.
