Vajira Buddhi Children’s Home in Sri Lanka is very close to our hearts at Botanicoir. It’s an incredible place, that currently cares for and educates 18 children.
Each year, instead of sending gifts to our clients, we contribute to the orphanage. Our donation helps it to provide sufficient food, educational materials, and maintenance, as well as special events for the children and the opportunity for work experience when they reach 18 years old and leave the orphanage.
According to warden Kumari Hami, after a difficult year for the economy, things seem to be settling down, and they look forward to using our donation to improve the infrastructure for the children’s sleeping accommodation. “The degradation to the ceiling in the children’s sleeping area is a matter to be addressed and the support we have received so far cannot be valued enough. I am very happy, even our children are always grateful for Botanicoir’s contributions and what we receive continuously.
“Sri Lanka has come back to some sort of normality, inflation is not a problem anymore, but everything is still very expensive – we could not manage without the dry rations and other support that Botanicoir provides us. For the sake of our children and everyone else, we hope that things will improve further in Sri Lanka next year,” adds Kumari Hami.
Samantha Balasuriya is passionate about supporting the orphanage. “We have been supporting this orphanage since 2005. It was originally set up for children left without parents after the devastating tsunami of 2004.
“It’s an honour to help such an important organisation and we hope that our donation can go some way towards making the children’s time at the orphanage more comfortable,” adds Sam.
