Botanicoir is launching ‘Beyond Sustainable’ at Fruit Focus 2026, a new initiative designed to help growers demonstrate the sustainability credentials of their coir substrates and meet evolving retailer and certification requirements with confidence.
Beyond Sustainable highlights the environmental and social projects already delivering positive impact across Botanicoir’s supply chain, while setting out an even greater ambition to support communities, enhance transparency and drive meaningful change throughout the coir industry.
As sustainability reporting becomes a growing requirement across the fresh produce supply chain, growers are under increasing pressure to provide evidence of their environmental and social performance. Through Beyond Sustainable, Botanicoir aims to provide growers with robust, verifiable information that can be used directly in sustainability reporting and to support compliance with retailer and certification standards.
The initiative has been developed following engagement with growers, helping Botanicoir to gain a deeper understanding of the sustainability requirements they face. This highlighted the increasing importance of recognised certification schemes, such as LEAF Marque, which are often required by UK retailers as part of their supplier standards.
“Growers are already implementing sustainable practices across their businesses,” explains Samantha Balasuriya at Botanicoir. “The challenge is increasingly about demonstrating and evidencing those actions. Beyond Sustainable is designed to provide growers with the information and support they need to report with confidence and meet evolving retailer expectations.”
Naomi Gunasekara, environmental scientist at Botanicoir, is heading up the initiative. “Beyond Sustainable showcases Botanicoir’s commitment to creating positive environmental and social impact throughout our supply chain. From supporting local communities and investing in environmental projects to improving transparency and developing resources that help growers meet sustainability requirements, we’re taking action where it matters most,” explains Naomi.
“Our goal is not only to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the coir industry, but also to provide growers with meaningful information and evidence that supports their own sustainability reporting and certification requirements,” she adds.
Beyond Sustainable builds on Botanicoir’s long-standing commitment to responsible sourcing, supply chain transparency, environmental improvement and community investment. By generating meaningful sustainability data throughout its supply chain, Botanicoir aims to make it easier for growers to communicate the sustainability benefits of the coir they use.
